Welcome to Year 6!
In Year 6, we have two classes: Pegasus Class and Phoenix Class.
Please click on the links below to see what we have been up to lately in Pegasus and Phoenix Class.
Social Story
Each year, we create a social story for our individual year groups. The aim of the Social Story is to help children become accustomed to their change in environment as they progress through the school. It outlines how their classroom will look, who their teachers are, and how the school day may look.
Our Year 6 social story can be found here:

Our Learning
CPR training
As we have been learning about the circulatory system and how to keep our heart healthy, we had the fantastic opportunity to participate in CPR training. First, we discussed what to do in an emergency and how to get help. We then learnt that if someone is unconscious but breathing, they can be put in the recovery position. If someone is not breathing, we would need to carry out CPR and perhaps even find a defibrillator.
Thank you so much to Miss Coutts and her colleagues at Medway Hospital!
National Poetry Day - Counting
We linked our work to this year's theme of counting, and to our class text, ‘Pig Heart Boy’ by Malorie Blackman. Some of us decided to focus on Cameron’s struggles with his heart and how he is counting down the days he has left if he doesn’t get a transplant in time.
We really enjoyed being creative and writing our own poems inspired by this!
Languages Day
Each class celebrated the links that children and families have to countries and languages across the world.
In Pegasus Class, we focused on The Netherlands. The children learnt to say some greetings and key words in Dutch, before researching the country's culture. We also looked at Van Gogh's 'The Starry Night' and made our own version!
In Phoenix Class, we explored the country of Nigeria and one of the main languages spoken there - Hausa. We learnt all about what life is like in Nigeria, the type of climate, weather and culture. We even learnt to introduce ourselves in Hausa!
Pig Heart Boy
We have been reading 'Pig Heart Boy' by Malorie Blackman in our English lessons and debating whether we think Cameron should go through with the procedure or not. Have a look at our display in the shared area.
